History

Groot Builders was founded in the 1950s when Jake Groot immigrated from the Netherlands to West Michigan. His son, Bob, joined the business after graduating from college. Upon Jake’s retirement in 1992, Bob took over the company. In 1993, while in high school, Scott Mulder started working at Groot Builders. He learned all phases of construction and eventually became construction manager, running the day to day operations with Bob. In December 2018, Bob decided to retire from Groot Builders and dedicate his time to Groot Realty. At this point, Scott took over as owner of Groot Builders. He continues the longstanding tradition of building top quality homes. The emphasis on excellent workmanship has allowed the company to provide custom homes and remodeling projects at a fair price to the West Michigan community for over 60 years.
